چکیده

Single-use plastic packaging is a cause of rising environmental concerns due to high production volumes, short usage time, and problems related end life management release into the environment. As result, there an increased demand develop alternative non-plastic from agricultural waste materials. This paper reported findings for converting, via atmospheric refining, oil palm empty fruit bunch (EFB) fibres fibrous pulp which can then be used produce three-dimensional moulded products. By optimising mould design, efficiency vacuum suction was improved, in turn helped improve fibre distribution quality trays; such trays are suitable containment food items as vegetables. Furthermore, when combined with compostable barrier treatments, lidding adhesive films currently under development, opportunity provide complete biocompostable solution some items. these products made wastes rather than plastics, recyclable or at life. Therefore, if does occur environment, it would not persist.

Rheological Behaviour of Injection Moulded Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunch Fibre – Polypropylene Composites: Effects of Electron Beam Processing Versus Maleated

In this study, oil palm empty fruit bunch fibres (EFB) reinforced polypropylene (PP) composites were prepared by two different methods i.e. physical treatment of the composites using electron beam irradiation and chemical treatment by adding coupling agent such as maleated PP. The composites pellets were then subjected to injection moulding for preparation of test pieces for physical, mechanica...

Synthesis and Characterization of Cellulose Acetate from TCF Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunch Pulp

Cellulose acetate (CA) was successfully synthesized by the acetylation of TCF cellulose pulp from oil palm empty fruit bunches (OPEFB) at room temperature, using acetic anhydride as the acetylating agent and acetic acid as the solvent in the presence of sulfuric acid/sodium bisulfate as catalysts. Degree of substitution (DS) was controlled by the variables of acetylation time and acetic anhydri...

Production and purification of xylooligosaccharides from oil palm empty fruit bunch fibre by a non-isothermal process.

Oil palm empty fruit bunches (OPEFB) fibre, a by-product generated from non-woody, tropical perennial oil palm crop was evaluated for xylooligosaccharides (XOS) production. Samples of OPEFB fibre were subjected to non-isothermal autohydrolysis treatment using a temperature range from 150 to 220 °C. The highest XOS concentration, 17.6g/L which relayed from solubilisation of 63 g/100 g xylan was ...

Optimization of NaOH-catalyzed steam pretreatment of empty fruit bunch

BACKGROUND Empty fruit bunch (EFB) has many advantages, including its abundance, the fact that it does not require collection, and its year-round availability as a feedstock for bioethanol production. But before the significant costs incurred in ethanol production from lignocellulosic biomass can be reduced, an efficient sugar fractionation technology has to be developed. To that end, in the pr...

Conversion of Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunch to Biofuels

Crude palm oil production is reaching 48.99 million metric tonnes per year globally in 2011 and Southeast Asia is the main contributor, with Indonesia accounting for 48.79%, Malaysia 36.75%, and Thailand 2.96% (Palm Oil Refiners Association of Malaysia, 2011). Oil palm is a multi-purpose plantation and it is also an intensive producer of biomass. Accompanying the production of one kg of palm oi...
